From 2006-2010 Echo Can Luo studied Multimedia Design at the China Academy of Art. In 2010 she got the bachelor title. Luo obtained her master degree at the Kunsthochschule Kassel in 2018 and a Meisterschülerin of Prof. Joel Baumann(until July 2019). She has been a part of Monitoring, 34. Kassel Dokumentarfilm & Videofest, and has shown her work at the Chengdu Biennale, the CAA Art Museum, the HAU, the MdbK Leipzig, the Kai10, the OCT Boxes art museum, the Kasseler Kunstverein, the Kunstraum Villa Friede Bonn and the Panke Gallery, amongst other places.

Echo Can Luo’s artistic activities proceed from the narrative of diverse backgrounds to engage with the methodological reconstruction of racial identity and gender equity in the digital world. Based on the algorithms, including 3D modelling, 3D photogrammetry and face tracking, her project aims to observe the biased and differentiated algorithm in the process of applying and testing software, as well as the influence of discrimination and bias experienced by people from diverse backgrounds in real-life situations and data.

Her interest is always present in examining the influence of the new media on our critical consciousness, on our communication and on society in general. Based on her research and observations of new media, her work shows how difficult it is in the age of social media to resist the power of images and not to succumb to the postulate of external ideals. Is the digitalized software an “insurgent” against transparency and democratization? Tangibly or intangibly, there is a certain disregard of the current algorithms to the human rights of marginalized groups of people.
